Fluid design
This design is centred (left–right) in the browser window, but note that the content area is now defined as having a width of 90% of the window. Whatever size the window is, the content area will be 90% of its width. (NB - simply reducing the size of a window on a high-res display will not accurately reflect the appearance on a lower res machine because such a machine would use smaller fonts.)
Note that certain aspects of the design — the depth of the header bar, for instance — remain constant. Obviously any design has to incorporate certain elements, most often images, which are fixed in size. That does not prevent the rest of the design being fluid.
The design also incorporates margins for the content area and increased spacing between the lines (“leading”), both of which make the text much more readable.
